UT launches Chandigarh Smart City Card, a step towards cashless society

UT Administration and Punjab Governor VP Singh Badnore launched the Chandigarh Smart City Card. The launch of the card is an initiative towards a cashless society.

When will it be available?

The card will be in use after its software launch on the occasion of Good Governance Day on December 25. Chandigarh residents with Aadhaar card can only for the Chandigarh Smart City Card.

Where to get it from?

The card will be available at all the branches of Bank of India and Sampark centres from December 15 onwards. However, while applying for the card, applicants will have to pay Rs 500. Therefore, Rs 150 will be the charges for the card and the remaining Rs 350 can be used for making payments.

How to use it?

Furthermore, the card can be recharged at Sampark centres or through debit cards online, net banking or UPI-BHIM applications. Apart from that, the cardholders will also get a pin number which can be changed later. And the card will carry the particulars photograph of the cardholder and can also work as an identity card.

Transaction Limit

Moreover, the card can be recharged up to Rs 50,000 and transactions worth Rs 2,000 or below can be made without generating a one-time password (OTP). However, transactions above the amount of Rs 2,000 will require an OTP. Therefore, cardholders will be updated about all the transactions through SMS alerts to avoid misuse.

Where to use the Card?

However, the card can be used at government offices in Chandigarh. The card holders can also make payments for public and private transports like CTU buses or private taxis and also Smart Parking lots. Moreover, electricity and water bills can also be paid using the Smart City Card. Apart from this, the card can be used to make payments at cinema halls, retail stores, and other such places.
